IVF Program, Let’s Get to Know the Process!

Technological advances in medicine are increasingly making human life easier, starting with heart transplants and kidney and IVF programs. The IVF processes start with how to take sperm for the program, take eggs, and much more.

IVF is a baby produced from the process of fertilization of eggs by sperm cells in the laboratory or in vitro fertilization (IVF). The IVF process is very helpful for people who have problems with fertility and have difficulty having children and can be an option for you and your partner.

Couples see the IVF process as a shortcut to getting pregnant quickly. But in reality, the IVF process takes quite a long time and requires careful preparation.

So that you are not curious about this program, here’s how to do IVF.

Knowing the Menstrual Cycle

Before starting the IVF or IVF program, you must know how your menstrual cycle is first. The doctor will advise you to take menstrual pills before starting this program because the contraceptive pill can increase the percentage of success of this IVF program.

Furthermore, these pills can lower the risk of several diseases, such as ovarian cysts and hyperstimulation syndrome. Unfortunately, not all doctors are willing and used to recommending this.

Doctors usually give GnRH antagonist drugs (Ganirelix) or GnRH agonists (Lupron) during the fertile period before menstruation. This injectable drug lets your doctor fully control your fertile cycle and ovulation when you start IVF.

Ovarian Monitoring and Stimulation

The ovaries will produce only one egg if your monthly ovulation cycle is normal. The drug injected into you will encourage the follicles in the ovaries and produce more eggs.

The drug aims to increase the number of eggs produced by the ovaries. The more eggs the doctor can take and the sperm to fertilize, the greater your chances of having children.

During ovarian stimulation, the doctor will monitor estrogen levels and follicle development by performing blood tests and ultrasounds every few days.

Maturation of Eggs in the Ovaries

Egg cells must develop first before the retrieval process. Therefore, the doctor will inject human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to trigger egg maturation. Doctors will be extra careful at this stage because giving the injection at the wrong time will cause the egg to not mature enough or if it takes too long, the egg will be too old, so it can’t bear fruit properly.

Egg Picking

The next IVF process is egg retrieval which you will do after 34-36 hours of getting hCG. This process uses a transvaginal ultrasound process in the retrieval of eggs.

After the doctor takes the egg, the doctor or health worker will take the egg to the embryology laboratory to immediately carry out the fertilization process. After this stage, you will rest in a few hours.

Sperm Retrieval

After that, the 5th way of making IVF is taking sperm to fertilize the eggs that have been taken. How to collect sperm for IVF? The trick is that the doctor or health worker will ask your partner to provide a semen sample by masturbating. This sampling has been made easy by one hospital in Jakarta. The hospital provides a special room for releasing sperm, which is a place to release sperm alone or with the wife.

If your partner can’t get it out independently, the doctor will suggest a surgical procedure to make the sperm retrieval process run smoothly. Doctors or health workers who have obtained the sperm cells will be taken to the laboratory.

Egg Fertilization

The next IVF program process is egg fertilization. The doctor will select the best eggs from your reproductive organs, separate the sperm from everything else in the semen, and select the best seeds. The doctor will place the selected sperm and eggs in a special container, which will undergo an incubation process in the laboratory. The fertilization of the sperm and egg takes approximately 12-24 hours. Then what about your partner who has poor sperm quality? The doctor will inject directly into the mature egg, aka intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Transfer of the Embryo into the Womb

After the sperm successfully fertilizes the egg, the doctor will store the egg for 3-5 days in a special container before transferring it to your uterus. The health worker or doctor will remove the fertilized egg (embryo) on the 5th day after conception, and you will receive the hormone progesterone to help the uterine lining in a state of readiness.

Embryo transfer uses a thin tube filled with embryonic fluid, and the doctor will insert it into your cervix. The number of embryos is usually 2-5 depending on the quality of the embryo itself.

After knowing the IVF program process, it’s time for you to find out how much this program costs. So, you and your partner can immediately save first.

IVF Program Fees

After knowing the complexity of the process of making IVF, you and your partner should also know the costs of this program. You and your partner can do this process not only at the hospital but also at a trusted clinic.

Clinics spread across the Jakarta area can now carry out IVF programs. The estimated price and quality are also quite competitive with hospitals, which are around: Rp. 30 million-Rp. 60 million.

Hospitals set prices that vary depending on technology and adequate facilities. The process, which goes from upstream to downstream, takes a long time and the facilities that must be adequate range from Rp. 30 million – Rp. 70 million.

The price does not include consultation, ultrasound, and other actions that may be required from the IVF program process. Many have asked about the law of infant children. Is it a biological child? Can you get the inheritance? Find out the answer below.

Is IVF a Biological Child?

The question is confusing because couples need help conceiving, which is considered a shortcut to having children. The children from the IVF program are the biological children of the husband and wife. In addition, inheritance law is included in group 1 heirs as regulated in Article 852 of the Civil Code:

“Children or descendants, even though born and various marriages, inherit the inheritance of their parents, grandparents, or their next families in a straight line upward, without sex or birth first.”

So, it can be certain that the babies produced from the IVF program are legitimate biological children, have inheritance rights, and are regulated by law in Indonesia. You and your partner no longer need to worry about this.

Those are the various processes of the IVF program, starting from how to take sperm for IVF program, how to take sperm, the costs required, and the law that regulates the babies produced by IVF.
